The Las Vegas Raiders are looking at contingency plans in case Allegiant Stadium isn't ready when the 2020 season is ready to kick off. There are a lot of question marks about the 2020 NFL season, but if the it does start on time, the Raiders stadium might not be ready.
According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the team has already looked at options including playing its home games in Salt Lake City, Phoenix, and San Diego.
That could be one way the Raiders want to handle it, but chances are there is a different direction the team would want to go. The Raiders could work with the NFL to try and get games moved around so they could still play all of their home games at Allegiant Stadium.
The team could move their preseason to a different site or play all four home games on the road. Once the regular season starts the team could try to play all of their early games on the road to buy a few more weeks to get the stadium ready. The NFL could start their season with four in-division games in the AFC West, which would make it easy to flip those first few games to be on the road, and then play the home games against their divisional rivals later in the season.
According to Allegiant Stadium officials, it's still on track to open on time. But with the COVID-19 pandemic changing the way the United States has operated things can change quickly, and that could result in a halt of stadium construction. Therefore, the Raiders exploring contingency plans now makes sense.
