The Los Angeles Chargers came away with an integral win in Week 17 over the Denver Broncos. They dominated from start to finish, which kept their playoff hopes alive.
It was a 34-13 victory, which was a much-needed bounce-back win. They were coming off of a shocking loss to the Houston Texans. Los Angeles has a talented roster and is now riding a big win heading into their final game.
With that said, here are three Chargers' takeaways from their emphatic Week 17 win over the Broncos.
3. Justin Herbert will be great for years to come
Justin Herbert has been sensational in his first two seasons as the quarterback for the Chargers. Herbert won Offensive Rookie of the Year and broke multiple rookie records. He has followed that up with an even better season.
Against the Broncos, he threw for 237 yards along with two touchdowns and zero interceptions. This added to his impressive season totals as he now has 4,631 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He has also contributed to the rushing attack with 301 yards and three touchdowns.
It's often hard to find a franchise quarterback as many top picks turn out to be busts, but Herbert is the real deal.
2. Chargers offense will be hard to stop
Although Los Angeles has been inconsistent at times, there is no disputing how elite their offense is. They have a great young quarterback in Herbert with two elite wide receivers in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams for him to throw to. They also have a good running back in Austin Ekeler, who is a threat in the rushing and receiving game.
Williams has burst onto the scene this year and is making a real impact. Against Denver, he had three receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown. While it wasn't high volume, he impacted the game in a big way for the Chargers. Allen gets a ton of attention from defenses, which frees up Williams to have success.
This season, he has 67 receptions for 1,027 yards and eight touchdowns. It will be hard to stop the duo of Allen and Williams in the postseason, especially with Herbert under center.
Article Continues BelowEkeler has had a very productive season and has been a vital part of the offseason. He rushed for 17 rushes for 58 yards and a touchdown. Ekeler also had three receptions for 54 yards, being a reliable target for Herbert.
This added to his season total as he has rushed for 847 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also has 65 receptions for 612 yards and seven touchdowns.
With offensive weapons all around Herbert, defenses will have to force turnovers to stand a chance.
1. Chargers will make it to the playoffs
The Chargers are looking good but don't have a playoff spot solidified. It will come down to their Sunday Night matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Las Vegas has faced multiple off-the-field problems this season, and it's impressive they have made it this far.
In their first matchup, the Chargers came out on top 28-14. It should be a closer game this time around as both teams will be fighting for the last playoff spot.
While the Chargers are the younger team, they have more talent and should come out on top. It would be great to see Herbert in the playoffs for the first time in his career. First-year head coach Brandon Staley has done an excellent job getting this group to work as a cohesive unit.
Chargers fans should be excited as they have a bright future ahead.
