The Los Angeles Chargers are officially moving on from Philip Rivers this offseason and it remains to be seen who they have in mind to replace him. According to The Athletic's Daniel Popper, Tom Telesco—the Chargers' general manager—likes the “internal options” at the quarterback position.

With Telesco's latest comments, Tyrod Taylor appears to be the front-runner to replace Rivers in 2020. The Chargers signed Taylor last offseason to a two-year deal to provide insurance behind Rivers.
At the same time, the team could've known they were going to part ways with Rivers and intended for Taylor to start this entire time. However, Los Angeles could also choose to draft a quarterback to compete with Taylor in training camp.

Prior to signing with the Chargers, Taylor previously started in games with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills in his career. Of course, Taylor's best years came with the Bills from 2015-17.
In that span, the veteran signal-caller combined for 8,857 passing yards, 51 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. The Virginia Tech alumn also showed off his rushing skills as he amassed 1,575 yards and another 14 touchdowns in those three seasons.
With the 2020 NFL Draft looming, the Chargers also own the No. 6 pick in the first round. Most scouts have listed the Chargers as a team that could select Justin Herbert out of Oregon in the first round.
Even if Los Angeles drafts Herbert, Taylor seems to be in the driver seat for the starting job. For the Chargers faithful that wanted Tom Brady in free agency, Telesco's recent remarks put an end to those rumors.
