The Los Angeles Chargers have an offensive coordinator position which is one of the most stable in the NFL.

According to Warren Sharp of SharpFootballAnalysis.com (a predictive NFL analytics and visualized data website), Los Angeles's Ken Whisenhunt is one of just three offensive coordinators who have been on the job for more than one year.

The three teams Sharp mentioned — the Chargers, New Orleans Saints, and New England Patriots — have enjoyed success during the tenures of their respective offensive coordinators.

With the exception of the 2016 NFL season (when they finished 5-11), the Chargers experienced a resurgence under Whisenhunt's guidance. Los Angeles went a combined 21-11 (.656) in 2017 and 2018.

As for the Saints, they won their first Super Bowl title in Carmichael's first year as offensive coordinator. Since then, they have made the postseason in five of nine years.

McDaniels has been the most successful of the three. New England has won four Super Bowl titles since the team hired him in 2012. Plus, the Patriots have made the postseason every year since he took charge of the offense.

Sharp's analysis is indicative of the link between an offensive coordinator's job stability and team success. Some teams pull the trigger on offensive coordinators after a season or two.

As a result, players have to constantly adjust to different offensive schemes. There's no stability whatsoever. It sets off a vicious cycle.

While the Chargers stumbled to a 5-11 finish in Whisenhunt's first season, they have improved in each of the last two years.

Whisenhunt and Co. finished 11th in the league in total offense last season (5,962 yards). Thirty-seven-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers still has a lot left in the tank. He has a solid supporting cast in Keenan Allen, Travis Benjamin, and Melvin Gordon III.

With Whisenhunt as the Chargers' offensive coordinator, he helped them win 12 of 16 games in 2018. Bear in mind Whisenhunt was the Arizona Cardinals' head coach when they made it to Super Bowl XLIII a decade ago.

With that in mind, don't act surprised if the Chargers win their first Super Bowl title in 2019.
