The Los Angeles Chargers are attempting to re-sign linebacker Denzel Perryman before he can hit free agency next week, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Perryman is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played just nine games due to knee and hamstring injuries that would ultimately require surgery, but when he was on the field, he was effective, registering 51 tackles and an interception.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the Chargers in the second round (48th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 14 contests during his rookie season, totaling 67 tackles, a couple of sacks, and a forced fumble. Then, the following year, Perryman participated in 12 games and finished with 71 tackles, two sacks and an interception.

The Coral Gables, Fl. native then played in just seven games in 2017 as a result of an ankle injury that sidelined him from August through the beginning of November, and he ended up tallying 37 stops and a fumble recovery.

Obviously, staying healthy has been a big issue for Perryman, as he has never played a full 16-game season and has appeared in just 16 contests combined over the last two years, but he is a productive member of Los Angeles' defense when he is right.

The Chargers won 12 games this past season and earned a Wild Card berth in the AFC playoffs. They went on to defeat the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round before falling to the New England Patriots in the Divisional Round a week later.
