The NFL's collective bargaining agreement set will expire in 2021, and many veterans are preparing for a strike.
Eight-year veteran Mike Pouncey of the Los Angeles Chargers has expressed that he and other veterans will be creating a strike fund that will help players in case there is a work stoppage in 2021.
Here's what he wrote on his Instagram:
“We are in the process of drawing up another fund to help in the wake of this 2021 strike,” Pouncey said on Instagram. “I myself @mikepouncey and @russellokung are all putting up 250k apiece along with a lot of other vet players stay tuned!!”
Nonetheless, a work stoppage will require all players to pass on their salaries. Even though it probably won't happen, there's still a slight chance it can happen in 2021.
In another post on Instagram, the Chargers star explained in detail what's going to happen during a strike.
Article Continues BelowIn 2020 we’re playing this season regardless, whether we sign the deal today or wait and do a strike. So don’t get that confused, guys. And if we go into a strike, each player from each team will get $250,000 for that year long lockout,” Mike Pouncey said.
Despite Pouncey's plan, there are still numerous questions that will need to be answered by everyone involved. Nonetheless, Pouncey has expressed that he'll take care of his younger teammates during a strike.
“Guys, do not worry. If we go on strike we will make sure every player is taken care of during the strike.”
In 2018, Pouncey signed a two-year deal worth $15 million with the Los Angeles Chargers. Pouncey is set to make $6 million this upcoming season.
