The Los Angeles Chargers though tight end Hunter Henry was gone for the season after he tore his ACL in May. But that might not necessarily be the case.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Henry has an outside shot to make a shocking return in December.

Schefter clarifies that Henry’s return is far from certain. But the tight end has shown significant progress in his rehab with no setbacks, which has opened the door for his potential comeback.

Henry, who currently is on the Chargers' reserve-physically unable to perform list, had 81 receptions for 1,057 yards and 12 touchdowns in his first two seasons with the Chargers.

Virgil Green and Antonio Gates have manned the tight end spots in Henry’s absence. The two of them have a combined 23 receptions for 255 yards and two touchdowns through the first eight games of the season.

The Chargers clearly don’t look as if they’re hurting from Henry’s absence. They are currently 6-2 with five straight wins and would claim the first wild-card slot if the regular season ended today. If they do make the playoffs, that would only give Henry more time to make his return and potentially play some part this season.

But clearly, the Chargers are doing just fine without Henry. Green and Gates have done the business in terms of blocking, while Keenan Allen, Tyrell Williams, and Mike Williams have taken care of the receiving production.

While it would be a nice story if Henry could return and contribute after his season looked to be over, the Chargers could do without him moving forward.
