Melvin Gordon is unhappy with his current contract situation with the Los Angeles Chargers. Although, the Chargers aren't showing any signs of budging anytime soon.
According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, Los Angeles is not willing to move off a “certain number” in Melvin Gordon contract talks. This isn't what Gordon wants to hear while he is away from the team.
Before training camp began, Gordon stated that he wanted a new deal or he would holdout during training camp. Gordon has kept his promise as he didn't report to training camp and is waiting for a new deal.
Gordon is entering the final year of his current contract. The Chargers running back is set to make $5.6 million in 2019—making him the 11th highest-paid running back this season.

Unlike Le'Veon Bell's situation last year, Gordon still has one year remaining on his contract. As for Bell, he decided to not sign the franchise tag and sat out the entire 2018 season.
Now, for Gordon, missing regular-season games could cost him as Gordon would be paying fines and he has to play before Week 10 to accrue an NFL season. So far, it looks as if Gordon's contract dispute could drag into the regular season though.
Currently, there seems to be no progress between the Chargers and Gordon, with the Chargers unwilling to move from a certain number on a new deal.
