BREAKING NEWS: Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald is still a monster on the defensive line.
Well, that might not exactly be a surprising update, but the fact remains that Donald is one of the best defenders in the NFL. That should be further reinforced by his latest shining achievement.
With three sacks in the Rams’ easy 31-9 win against the Arizona Cardinals on the road in Week 16, Donald has managed to set a new single-season record for defensive tackles in NFL history, as noted by Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.
Article Continues BelowDonald sacked Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen for the second time in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game to move himself to 18.5 sacks on the season. That’s a half-sack more than Keith Millard had for the Vikings in 1989 and a new record for defensive tackles in a single season.
Apart from his sacks total in the Cardinals game, Donald also recorded three quarterback hits.
Donald, who is the reigning defensive player of the year, is a big reason why the Rams have become a powerhouse in the NFC. His presence alone sends shivers down opposing quarterbacks’ spines, and it’s going to stay that way for years to come, as the Pittsburgh Panthers product is only in the first season of his six-year deal with the Rams.
Donald and the Rams will next take on the San Francisco 49ers at home in Week 17.
