The high-powered offense of the Los Angeles Rams went out with a whimper in the Super Bowl on Sunday night, mustering just three points in a loss to the New England Patriots.
Rams quarterback Jared Goff did not exactly have a banner day in the defeat, completing just 19 of his 38 passes for 229 yards and an interception that essentially ended Los Angeles' hopes of a comeback.
Afterward, the 24-year-old took the blame for the Rams' loss:
“What really stings for me, especially as a quarterback, is that our defense played so well — and I wasn't able to deliver,” Goff said, according to Michael Silver of NFL.com. “It was me. It was our offense. And we — well, I — couldn't do my part.”
To be fair to Goff, Los Angeles' offensive line did not exactly do a great job in protecting him, as the Rams allowed Goff to be sacked four times. The signal-caller was also hurried for most of the game and took numerous hits throughout the contest.
Still, Goff isn't making any excuses:
“It wasn't a game we needed 30 points to win,” he added. “We needed two touchdowns, and I couldn't get it done. That's on me. I'm the guy who has to drive this offense.”
On the season overall, Goff threw for 4,688 yards, 32 touchdowns and 12 picks while completing 64.9 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 101.1.
Goff, who played his collegiate football at the University of California, was originally selected by the Rams with the first overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.
