Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders has just set a franchise record for most consecutive field goals. He's now gone 20 in a row, which dates back to last season, and as a result, he made a bit of history on Sunday in a win against the Arizona Cardinals.

As it turns out, this unprecedented streak might have a lot to do with Sanders' glorious beard. Even the 24-year-old himself seems to agree:

“I mean, the beard's working,” Sanders said, via the Miami Herald. “If the beard's not working I don't need it anymore, but it's working right now.”

That's quite a theory. However, if it's working for him (and the Dolphins), then why get rid of the beard, right?

In all seriousness, though, Sanders acknowledged how important this record is for him:

“It's an honor to be in any history book,” he added. “Any record you get in the NFL is something to be proud of.”

Sanders came up big for Miami on Sunday, scoring on two long-distance kicks (56 and 50 yards) to help the Dolphins secure a 34-31 victory over Arizona.

Sanders and the rest of the Dolphins will be back in action on Sunday against the 2-6 Los Angeles Chargers. This would be an opportunity for Sanders to extend his amazing streak, and for Miami, this presents itself as a chance to build on their current four-game winning streak.

The Dolphins currently stand at 5-3, and are at the second spot in the AFC East.
