Miami Dolphins tight end Adam Shaheen has been super vocal this offseason about remaining unvaccinated despite the NFL urging players to get the vaccine.

On Monday, Shaheen ended up on the reserve/Covid-19 list after testing positive and now he will miss Miami's Week 1 contest against the New England Patriots.

It's not the kind of news the Dolphins want to get at the start of the week as they start to prep for the Patriots.

Earlier in the offseason, via SI.com, Shaheen was adamant on remaining unvaccinated.

“You know, for me it’s a personal choice and it’s bigger than just COVID,” Shaheen said. “I’m not going to elaborate further on that. The NFL is trying to push it. It’s no secret that they’ve been trying to push it on unvaccinated guys. You know what? I’m going to continue to go through the protocols of the unvaccinated that they make me do. I’m not going to get fined. But they’re not going to strong-arm me into doing something for more freedom when this is such a changing atmosphere and they’re already taking away freedoms of the unvaccinated guys.”

Perhaps the NFL is pushing it on unvaccinated guys because they would prefer players like the Dolphins' tight end to get the vaccine to lessen the chance of breakouts happening on rosters. Shaheen seems to believe it has to do with taking away freedoms of the unvaccinated.

“I’m going to keep my hands off and follow the rules that they put in place for me, but they’re not going to strong-arm myself into getting it. So, no.”

The Dolphins – Patriots matchup will be intriguing nonetheless with storylines galore filling it up. Leading the way will be former Alabama quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones squaring off against one another.
