Heading into his fifth year in the league, Miami Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker is going into a highly critical campaign with a chance to break out in 2018.
Parker has appeared to have suffered a minor setback with a broken middle finger that will sideline him for the next couple of weeks but should see him back in action for the season opener, according to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network.
#Dolphins coach Adam Gase said WR DeVante Parker is week-to-week, and the specific ailment is a broken middle finger, source said. He should be back for the opener.

There shouldn't be any cause for concern given that he will be back in the fold ahead of the season opener next month. However, the team will continue to monitor the situation over the next couple of weeks of the preseason and training camp as his availability will be indicative of his status for Week 1 action against the Miami Dolphins. In the meantime, it will be a chance for offseason additions Danny Amendola and Albert Wilson to get further comfortable in the offensive game plan.
The Dolphins are counting on him to play a major role in the passing game with the opportunity to secure the top receiving role as quarterback Ryan Tannehill go-to option following the departure of Pro Bowl wideout Jarvis Landry in a trade to the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason. His primary competition for that spot may be Kenny Stills and Amendola, who have each demonstrated in their careers that they can be dependable receiving option in huge roles.
He has proven to be a productive and reliable receiving option over his brief NFL, but injuries have limited his impact on the field despite coming off a 2017 campaign where he made a career-high 57 catches for 670 receiving yards and a touchdown in 13 games played. Parker has shown to have tremendous talent but has yet to fulfill that in his first four years but has shown flashes of promise.
