Miami Dolphins running back Frank Gore continues to play at a high level at the age of 35, and on Sunday against the New York Jets on the road, he added to his career accomplishments by climbing up a notch in the record books by passing Curtis Martin for fourth on the all-time rushing yards list.

Gore woke up on Sunday with 14,087 rushing yards in his NFL career and ended the Jets game with 14,013 after gaining 25 rushing yards on nine carries. Gore also had 19 receiving yards on a crucial catch he made during the critical moments of the fourth quarter.

To break into the top three of the all-time rushing yards list, Frank Gore will have to run for 1,167 yards more to replace the legendary Barry Sanders at the third spot. He is unlikely to reach that mark this season, especially with the fact that he’s not the go-to running back in Miami, a role that currently belongs to the much younger Kenyan Drake.

Assuming he plays beyond the end of this season and depending on how this year turns out for the ageless running back, Gore can challenge Sanders’ mark in 2019. Gore is playing on a one-year, $1.105 million deal he signed with the Dolphins back in March.

Gore and Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson are the only active players inside the top 10 of the all-time rushing list.
