The Miami Dolphins rebuild project is on full steam as they release another important cog to their defensive scheme in the form of TJ McDonald.
Ian Rapoport confirms the move in what is considered by some fans as a long-standing rebuild project:
The #Dolphins have released veteran S TJ McDonald, who was due $5.1M in salary. As the rebuild continues…

It's quite a risky move for a team that was only a couple of wins away from playoff contention to let go of such an important piece. However, the Dolphins have stuck to their guns and have broadcasted to the world that they will ride or die with Josh Rosen's ridiculous potential.
It's not like McDonald will be without a job for long, though. His defensive performance in the 2018 season is a factor in Miami's tiny successes last time out.
He made three interceptions in his 14 starts last season. It's his highest tally since suiting up for the Los Angeles Rams in 2016. Though none of them ended up in pick-sixes, it's more than enough to put the team in a better situation. It also puts him 29th in the interceptions board.
He also had 63 solo tackles, ranking 58th overall in the league. He also notched one TFL last season.
There are plenty of teams in the NFL who have leaky pass defenses and could use a talented player who can contribute right away. It's possible that he might not find a home in Week 1, but injuries and waivers will eventually help him find a home next season.
Meanwhile, nobody knows what's next in the Josh Rosen Project. They will count on their new franchise quarterback to develop to the star they project him to be.
