Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been ruled out against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, per Jeff Darlington of ESPN.
Backup Brock Osweiler will start against the Bears, his first start as a member of the Dolphins.
Tannehill had been dealing with an injury to his right throwing shoulder over the past few weeks. He was a limited participant in practice on Friday after being a full participant on Wednesday and Thursday.
Tannehill initially suffered the injury back in Week 3 against the Oakland Raiders, but he played in each of the team’s last two games against the Patriots and Bengals.
But after a strong start to the season, his play declined significantly in those two games, which both resulted in defeats. He completed well over 70 percent of his passes for his first three games, but that number dropped to a mere 56 percent in the last two weeks with one touchdown against three interceptions.
Article Continues BelowTannehill committed three turnovers in the second half of last week's 27-17 loss to the Bengals, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
With Tannehill out, Osweiler will now have the unenviable task of going up against the Bears' ferocious pass rush.
History is on Tannehill's side as he's a perfect 2-0 in two meetings against Chicago, per Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.
However, this is clearly a much different team than the ones he's faced. And given the current circumstances, he will a tough task of stopping an in-form Bears team that will be looking for their fourth win in a row.
