The 2019 regular season was a rough one for Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen.
A hamstring injury limited Thielen to just 10 games, as he finished with just 30 catches for 418 yards and six touchdowns, his lowest output since 2015.
But on Sunday, Thielen came up with a huge performance in the Vikings' Wild Card Round playoff win over the New Orleans Saints, logging seven grabs for 129 yards, including a 43-yard reception that set up Minnesota's game-winning touchdown in overtime.
However, Thielen certainly did not get off to a great start in the contest, as he fumbled on the third play of the game (which resulted in a Saints field goal) and was flagged for a holding penalty on what would have been a 12-yard run by Alexander Mattison in the first quarter.
“I was just flushing the toilet,” Thielen said, according to Chris Tomasson of The St. Paul Pioneer Press. “It’s a motto that I learned in college. I’m going to go flush it down the toilet and I’m going to go to the next play. I even made a motion like, ‘Hey, flush that, because for me it doesn’t matter what happened in the past.’”
And Thielen did just that, coming through with arguably the biggest catch of his career to help the Vikings come away with a pretty huge upset on the road:
“Kirk just threw a great ball,” Thielen said of the play. “It was a perfect ball that really just dropped right in the bucket. Kudos to him.”
Now, Adam Thielen will try to continue his heroics against the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round next Saturday.
