The Minnesota Vikings have a setback in their playoff chances after falling to the Chicago Bears 25-20 on Sunday night that has put them in a tough spot.

Much of the attention since the game has been focused on their struggles offensively with their shortcoming in the passing game that was evident against the Bears' stout defense. Head coach Mike Zimmer has voiced that he believes that the team may have too expansive of a playbook that has contributed to their shortcomings on the field, according to Courtney Cronin of ESPN.

Mike Zimmer theorized the Minnesota Vikings may have too much “volume” within their offensive playbook a day after the team dropped its third prime-time game of the season, a 25-20 loss at the Chicago Bears.

Whatever the case may be, the Vikings have had notable struggles in primetime games this season as they haven't looked like the same offensive juggernaut they have in other contests this year. They possess a potent passing game with their trio of quarterback Kirk Cousins along with wide receiver Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. These three have been able to lead the charge for the offense that has helped them have one of the more formidable units in the league.

The hope was that the addition of Cousins would take the team to the next level to help them build off their promising 2017 campaign that saw them reach the NFC Championship game for the first time in nearly a decade. Instead, the team has struggled to find consistency on a weekly basis to break through in the NFC North. The Vikings had an opportunity to do so against the Bears but fell flat as their offense was put under wraps for much of the contest as the first three quarters the team struggled as Cousins threw a pair of interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown.
What should also be noted is that Minnesota has the lack of a true running game throughout the year ranking 31st in rushing as second-year running back Dalvin Cook is making his way back to form from a nagging hamstring injury. Nonetheless, it is on their shoulders to make a push forward over the final six games of the season.
