The upcoming season is going to be a weird one for New England Patriots fans. For the first time in roughly two decades, the Pats will be going into the season without Tom Brady under center.
As a result, many analysts have New England finishing near the bottom of the league. However, in Bill Belichick's 20 years as Patriots head coach, the team has finished worse than 9-7 just once and that was in his first season with the team.
Week One vs. Miami
The Patriots start the season with a Miami team that went 5-11 last season. Although I think Miami had a great offseason, there's no way I'm not taking Belichick at home to open the season. Especially if it's against a rookie quarterback.
Win (1-0)
Week Two @ Seattle
The Seahawks defense did struggle last season but I'm not too confident in Jarrett Stidham (or whoever the Patriots' starting QB may be) going into a stadium like Seattle's and coming out victorious.
Loss (1-1)
Week Three vs. Las Vegas
I think the Raiders could be a sneaky team next season and could slip into the playoffs but I think experience and defensive talent will guide New England to a close victory here.
Win (2-1)
Week Four @ Kansas City
The defending Super Bowl champs will likely be one of the league's best team and Arrowhead Stadium is one of the hardest venues to win in as an away team.
Loss (2-2)
Week Five vs. Denver
It'll be interesting to see the development of second-year quarterback Drew Lock and the Broncos have certainly added some weapons this offseason. This one is a toss-up but when in doubt, go with the home team.
Win (3-2)
BYE
Week Seven vs. San Francisco
Like the Chiefs, the 49ers should be one of the best teams in the NFL after winning the NFC last season. I think there's just too much talent for a Patriots team that will still be growing together and have New England suffering their first home loss of the season.
Loss (3-3)
Week Eight @ Buffalo
The Bills lost to the Patriots twice in some very close games last year but I'm expecting big things out of Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs and a strong defense which will give New England two losses in a row.
Loss (3-4)
Week Nine @ NYJ
While I expect the Bills and Dolphins to be strong contenders in the AFC East, I'm a lot less confident about the Jets and see New England going and winning their first game away from home against a team that they have dominated in the past few seasons.
Win (4-4)
Week 10 vs. Baltimore
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is arguably the most exciting player in the NFL and while I still don't think it'll be Baltimore's year, I think the 2019 MVP will be a bit too much for the Patriots to handle.
Loss (4-5)
Week 11 @ Houston
Article Continues BelowHouston went a solid 10-6 last season but they got rid of superstar wideout DeAndre Hopkins and could easily take a step back this year. Stidham and co. roll into Houston and overpower a suspect Texans defense.
Win (5-5)
Week 12 vs. Cardinals
The Cardinals should come into the 2020 season with a bit of hype after pairing young quarterback Kyler Murray with DeAndre Hopkins.
Still, this is a defense that allowed the most yards in the NFL last year and will be entering a hostile Foxboro.
Win (6-5)
Week 13 @ LAC
The Patriots start a three-game road stretch against a Chargers team that will have Tyrod Taylor or rookie Justin Herbert under center. I'm taking Belichick in that one.
Win (7-5)
Week 14 @ LAR
After playing New England in the 2019 Super Bowl, the Rams took a bit of step back last season. Although I don't see them as true contenders, I can see the Rams getting back to being a postseason team and should handle the Patriots at home.
Loss (7-6)
Week 15 @ Miami
Yes the Patriots demolished the Dolphins in Miami 43-0 last year but the Dolphins improved a lot during the season and have the necessary pieces to steal win from New England in this one.
Loss (7-7)
Week 16 vs. Buffalo
After falling to Buffalo in week eight, expect Belichick to seek revenge. The Patriots haven't lost both games to the Bills since 1999 and don't expect that to change in 2020.
Win (8-7)
Week 17 vs. NYJ
Someone has to be at the bottom of the AFC East and I think it'll be the Jets. I simply don't think New York has enough firepower to beat out the Patriots defense and as a result, the Patriots end the season on a two-game winning streak.
Win (9-7)
