Cam Newton is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks and there are more than a few folks out there who believe that the former league MVP is on his way out of the New England Patriots. Much has been made about Newton's relationship with Pats coach Bill Belichick but in spite of the same, the All-Pro quarterback had nothing but praise for his coach.

On a recent appearance on the I AM ATHLETE podcast, Newton expressed just how much he respected and admired Belichick:

“There were times last year, I knew I was about to get pulled. I'm a realist,” Newton said, via NFL insider Dov Kleiman.

“I think Bill Belichick is the most misunderstood person in all of sports. … He's dope as shit. Like, he is a cool dude.”

Newton clearly holds Belichick in high regard. However, this does not mean that he still wants to play for the 68-year-old shot-caller this coming season.

Belichick is unlike any other coach in the NFL. He's a bit of a trailblazer, which is why some of his decisions are at times easily misinterpreted. The Newton-Belichick partnership in New England hasn't really panned out — especially considering how Newton succeeded the great Tom Brady — and at this point, there is a big possibility that these two won't have another shot at it again next term.

Then again, Newton himself does not appear to be closing any doors, so the possibility of him entering the new campaign as a Patriot still remains to be a distinct possibility.
