New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has been dealing with a pesky thumb injury that he suffered during his team's final preseason game, but it seems that Edelman will be just fine for the Patriots' Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
“It’s a thumbs up, man. Thumbs up,” Edelman said on The Greg Hill Show on Friday morning.
That is certainly huge news for New England, especially considering that the Pats will already be without rookie wide out N'Keal Harry, who was placed on the injured reserve list due to an ankle injury he sustained earlier in the preseason.
Plus, Edelman is Tom Brady's favorite target, so having him on the field opens up the Patriots' entire offense.
The 33-year-old is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 12 games after missing all of 2017 due to a torn ACL, hauling in 74 receptions for 850 yards and six touchdowns.
Most importantly, Edelman went on to have a monster playoff run, catching 26 passes for 388 yards and ultimately winning Super Bowl MVP honors after New England's Super Bowl win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Edelman, who played his collegiate football as a quarterback at Kent State, was originally selected by the Pats in the seventh round (232nd pick overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.
It wasn't until Edelman's fifth year in the league that he finally became a big part of the Patriots' offense, as he caught 105 passes for 1,056 yards and six scores that season.
The Patriots will battle the Steelers at home on Sunday night.
