When New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was handed a four-game suspension for PED use, it caused a lot of issues in his personal life, most notably with his dad. Edelman is doing a new documentary for the Showtime network that gives an inside look at his personal life.

One of the topics discussed was about the PED suspension and how it caused him and his dad to have quite the fight.

“Frank was very upset,” Edelman’s mother, Angie, said via boston.com. “Jules didn’t want his dad a part of this process. He was handling it with his attorneys, and my husband doesn’t understand that sometimes.”

According to the documentary. the two didn't talk for 81 days, which was shocking because they usually talk each day.

“Me and my dad talk every day,” Edelman said, “And after that, we didn’t talk for awhile.”

Edelman took full responsibility for the suspension that came while he was recovering from an ACL injury, but also admits that it was a low time in his time, and was hard to deal with.

“It was a low time,” Edelman said. “You’re already battling mentally if you can do it like you did it. And then all of a sudden you have this, you’re dealing with this, and then you’re dealing with everyone outside of your life and what people are saying and dealing with and you can’t really get too involved into because you’re ultimately trying to get yourself back to playing football.”

Edelman was still able to have a big year last year after serving the four-game suspension, and the hope is that he will be a key for the Patriots again this year.
