Antonio Brown is officially a New England Patriot, and on Tuesday, the Patriots welcomed him to the family on Twitter.

Brown's journey to New England was certainly a strange one.

It all started at the conclusion of the 2018 campaign when he asked the Pittsburgh Steelers for a trade. The Steelers obliged, sending him to the Oakland Raiders for a third-round draft pick and a fifth-rounder.

But while the marriage between Brown and Oakland seemed like a reasonable one at the time, it didn't take long for the wide receiver to wear out his welcome.

Whether it was dealing with frostbite on his feet or a seemingly never-ending battle with the NFL over the usage of his now-banned helmet, Brown's offseason was a tumultuous one, and he barely participated in training camp as a result.

Things then reached a boiling point last week when Brown was hit with a $54,000 fine from the Raiders for missing some time during camp. Displeased with the penalty, Brown posted a photo of Oakland's fine letter on Instagram.

Then, last Wednesday, Brown confronted Raiders general manager Mike Mayock at practice in a heated dispute that nearly turned physical before linebacker Vontaze Burfict intervened.

Brown apologized to the team on Friday, but when he discovered that Oakland had voided the $30 million in guaranteed money that it was scheduled to owe him, he took to Instagram to request his release.

The Raiders met his demand, and Brown signed with the Patriots almost immediately.

Brown was not able to participate in New England's Week 1 win over his former Pittsburgh squad, but he will be eligible to play next Sunday when the Pats take on the Miami Dolphins.
