Former LSU Tigers quarterback Danny Etling has a new role with the New England Patriots at wide receiver. On the first day of training camp, Etling wasn't wearing a red non-contact quarterback jersey, rather wearing a jersey and lining up on special teams and at receiver.

Etling talked to reporters on Friday and said that he is excited to be doing whatever he can for the team, which makes sense because he is doing whatever he can to make the team.

“Everyone has a lot of different roles on this team and I am no exception,” Etling told reporters Thursday, via WEEI.com. “I am excited to keep trying to find a different role for myself, do whatever the coaches ask me to do, and keep learning from the leaders in front of me.”

Etling said last season he learned that there is constant change in football and it is something that he has really adapted to.

“I think I have always kind of known, especially last season, that week-to-week you are going to have different roles and responsibilities. One thing is definitely for sure in football that there is constant change. You definitely want to continue to develop as many skills and talents as you can to help the team and help your role expand.”

It makes sense for the Etling to find a new role because it was going to be hard to make the team at quarterback with the team drafting Jarrett Stidham out of Auburn. Maybe he can impress enough at wide receiver that he can make the final 53.
