The New England Patriots are poised to do better compared to their rather underwhelming 2020 season, but former Dallas Cowboys QB and now CBS NFL analyst Tony Romo thinks they will do more than just improve.
According to Romo, he sees the Patriots as massive threats that other NFL teams wouldn't want to play against.
“I'm convinced the Patriots are for real. No one's gonna want to play them,” Romo said during an NFL on CBS media call, per Ben Volin of Boston Globe.
Is this Romostradamus speaking again? Tony Romo has been popular for his ability to correctly predict plays on the field during games, with a 2019 WSJ report saying 68 percent of his predictions during that season were right.
Of course, we don't know how he fares with general predictions and warnings like the one he did for the Patriots. However, it is worth remembering that Romo played 13 seasons in the NFL and made it to the Pro Bowl four times. Simply put, he knows football and he understands a threat when he sees one.
Apparently, for Romo, the Patriots are at that level again where they should be feared. Following a 7-9 2020 campaign, New England appears to have bounced back and is showing some signs of competitiveness in the post-Tom Brady era. They went 3-0 in their preseason games this year, beating the Washington Football Team, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants.
Head coach Bill Belichick and New England have officially chosen Mac Jones as their QB1, cutting Cam Newton in the process. Along with their young signal-caller, the Patriots also have a deep running back corps with Damien Harris, James White, JJ Taylor, Rhamondre Stevenson, and Brandon Bolden, as well as an improved defensive line with Davon Godchaux, Lawrence Guy, Deatrich Wise, Henry Anderson, Christian Barmore, and Carl Davis.
It remains to be seen how the Patriots will perform in the upcoming campaign, but there are certainly reasons to be optimistic.
