The New York Giants have revealed that they've added another new hire to their roster: DB coach Everett Withers, who has a long history in the NFL.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Withers took over the position from outgoing defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo, who defected to the Bengals and became their defensive coordinator.

According to Newsday, Everett Withers was an NFL assistant with the Saints and Titans, but has spent most of his coaching career in college. He was the head coach at James Madison, North Carolina, and Texas State. Earlier this month, he was named defensive coordinator at Florida International, a position he’ll leave for the opportunity with the Giants.

Prior to his tenure with the Giants, Withers was best known for his head coaching work with the Texas State Bobcats. Withers served as head football coach at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during the 2011 season as well as James Madison University in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Originally serving as a football player — specifically, playing the tight end position for the Mountaineers — Withers got his coaching career off the ground in 1988, when he served as the defensive coordinator at Austin Peay State University. He then proceeded to coach wide receivers and special teams at Austin Peay before moving on to coach outside linebackers at Tulane University in 1991. A year later he went to the University of Southern Mississippi to coach defensive backs. Withers then moved to the NFL, joining the New Orleans Saints as a defensive quality controller in 1994.
