The New York Giants have plenty of problems to deal with and address before they can be taken seriously again as a Super Bowl contender. For Mike Francesca of WFAN Radio, one way to rescue the team out of its funk is by getting rid of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
“For once, can I come out of one game one time and not have there be a Beckham story of some type we worry about and everybody in this town worrying about whether he's happy, whether he is being utilized right, whether he is content with the game plan, whether he is on board, whether the coaches are connecting with him?” the WFAN host said in a fiery rant at the start of his show Tuesday. “I am so sick of this Beckham garbage. It is so overrated, and it is such absolute nonsense, and the media's caught it so badly.”
Talk about a hot take.
Obviously, Francesca’s diatribe was largely a product of his immense frustration over the Giants’ quick decay this season. Projected at least as a Super Bowl dark horse prior to the 2018 NFL campaign, the Giants didn’t waste much time showing that they’re far from a team ready to contend for a Vince Lombardi Trophy again by going 1-7 in their first eight games. That stretch included a five-game losing skid from Weeks 4 to 8.
Mike Francesca is merely looking for anyone and anything to pin blame on, and Odell Beckham Jr. seems to be a convenient figure for him to target.
Francesca, however, could have also lit up the poor play of quarterback Eli Manning and the pathetic form of the Giants’ offensive line, but opting to prey on Beckham can also be interpreted as a better choice to attract listeners.
The Giants will get the Chicago Bears at home this coming Sunday.
