The New York Giants are not done dealing. A day after trading away a former top-10 pick in cornerback Eli Apple to the New Orleans Saints, the Giants have now dealt defensive tackle Damon Harrison to the Detroit Lions for a fifth-round pick, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Harrison, 29, is one of the best run-stuffing defensive linemen in the league. He spent the past three years with the Giants after signing from the New York Jets in free agency. He had a terrific debut season for the Giants in 2016, registering 2.5 sacks and 86 tackles as he made first-team All-Pro.
“Snacks” played 39 out of a possible 39 games for the Giants in his two and a half years with the team, putting up four sacks and 193 tackles.
The Harrison trade coming so soon after the Apple deal should be a pretty strong indication that the Giants are getting set to rebuild following a disappointing 1-6 start to the season. And with the trade deadline still a week away, this may not be the last move they make.
As for the Lions, Harrison’s arrival should help shore up a disappointing Detroit run defense that ranks 30th in the NFL, giving up 139 rushing yards per game. He is likely to take over as the Lions’ starting nose tackle. Ricky Jean-Francois, A’Shawn Robinson, and Sylvester Williams had been rotating in that spot this season.
The Lions will be on the hook for the remaining $20 million left on the five-year, $46.25 million deal Harrison signed for the Giants back in 2016.
