On Tuesday, the New York Giants shook up the NFL world when they announced that they would be starting Jaxson Dart ahead of Russell Wilson for this weekend's game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The move marks a major shift from the veteran Wilson to a player 14 years his junior in Dart, whom the Giants drafted this past spring.
The move drew a host of reactions from the sports media landscape, including from Colin Cowherd, who took to The Herd to relay his thoughts.
“I don’t ever remember a quarterback going from ‘elite’ to ‘nobody wants to be his coach’ faster than Russell Wilson,” said Cowherd, per Herd w/Colin Cowherd on X, formerly Twitter.
Russell Wilson hasn't been the MVP candidate version of himself for several years now, beginning with a disastrous 2022 season with the Denver Broncos. While Wilson saved face a bit with his performance in 2023, opening the door for him to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, he didn't do a whole lot during his time there, and recently struggled through a brutal game against the Kansas City Chiefs which may have been the final nail in the coffin in this decision.
In fairness to Wilson, he did nearly throw for 500 yards against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, but quarterbacks having career days against this Dallas defense is starting to become a theme this year.
A big decision for New York

Jaxson Dart got ample playing time in the New York Giants' preseason run this summer, and he took full advantage of the opportunity, as the former Ole Miss quarterback diced up opposing (second and third string) defenses, immediately generating calls for him to be the starter for New York.
In his first start, Dart will be thrown into the fire, taking on a Chargers team that has started the year 3-0 and has one of the best defenses in the NFL, despite the injuries they are currently dealing with on that side of the ball.
In any case, Dart and the Giants will take the field against Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM ET from the Meadowlands.
