Eli Manning might not be much longer in the Big Apple. According to reports, New York Giants ownership told scouts to begin looking at college quarterbacks with a more keen eye.

According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com, owner John Mara put out word several weeks ago to start looking closely at the top college quarterbacks, including Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen and others.

Here is where the caveat comes in: A lot of National Football League franchises scout quarterbacks even if they don't actually need one. A young gunslinger is a valuable asset to have, even if a franchise doesn't plan on taking one in the NFL Draft.

Really, all the Giants might be doing is scouting these talents to get a better gauge of their worth. That way, since New York seems destined to pick early in next year's draft, the front-office will have a better grip on what the trade value of their pick might be.

At the same time, the Giants do need to figure something out. Eli Manning isn't getting any younger. Moreover, he isn't getting any better, either. It has been several seasons now, with it appearing most whenever his star receiver is hurt, and it seems as though the veteran signal-caller might actually be regressing.

All of that is conjecture at this point. But still, with New York playing poorly and a potential sweeping change coming to its coaching staff, a rebuild of sorts does seem inevitable. Whether or not the Giants attempt to do this in the upcoming draft remains unknown.

This is certainly a story worth following as it continues to develop.
