Earlier in the season, it looked like Eli Manning's days as the New York Giants quarterback were over and done with. Heck, if the Giants had a young quarterback worth thrusting into the lineup, Manning may very well have gotten benched weeks ago.

However, a resurgence in Manning's play of late has completely turned the tables, and now, it looks like the two-time Super Bowl MVP may be back in New York next season after all, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

“He is, from what I understand, playing his way onto the roster in 2019,” Rapoport said. “Sources I talked to, were adamant, no decision has been made firmly. This is an offseason situation. But the way he has been playing, the way he has held up certainly opens up the possibility that he is back in 2019; something which if you talked about earlier in the season, we all would've thought you were crazy.”

When you think about it, it makes sense. Manning has one year left on his deal, and the Giants have not yet found their successor to Manning. Perhaps they will find a signal-caller they like in the draft and let Manning groom him next season while also taking a curtain call?

After an abysmal 1-7 start to the season, the Giants have actually won four of their last five games, largely due to the efforts of Manning.

The 37-year-old is actually posting decent numbers on the year, owning 3,460 yards, 18 touchdowns and just eight interceptions while establishing career highs in completion percentage (67.1 percent) and passer rating (95.8).

Known for his legendary playoff performances, Manning has been the full-time starting quarterback for the Giants since the midway point of his rookie campaign in 2004.
