“These past three years, and especially the past few months, have been a whirlwind, but I have a lot of peace about the next chapter in my life. With that being said, I'm excited to announce that I'll be entering the 2022 NFL Draft. I'll forever be grateful for my time here at Carolina, and for all the people that made it so special. Chapel Hill will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Although he will no longer be donning Tar Heels threads on the football field, Howell will forever be a North Carolina legend — and that's regardless of how he fares in the 2022 NFL Draft. Many mock drafts have Howell getting taken in the first round. A team like the Pittsburgh Steelers could look in Howell's direction, with Ben Roethlisberger seemingly on his way to retirement after this season.
In his final game with the Tar Heels, Howell passed for 205 yards and a touchdown without an interception on 12/20 completions, albeit in a 38-21 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Duke's Mayo Bowl.
Howell's 2022 NFL Draft resume includes 10,283 passing yards, 92 passing touchdowns, and a 63.8 pass completion percentage during his North Carolina career.
