Former Notre Dame head coach and NFL coordinator Charlie Weis is apparently interesting in getting back into the professional coaching world.

Weis last served as the head coach at Kansas, where he 6-22 in three seasons before being fired in 2014.

At least at the NFL level, his most notable stop was as offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2004.

And now, after several years out of coaching, it appears that he wants to get back into the business.

From ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter:

Weis said if the right situation came along, he would be interested. He said he has his wife's blessing, he has stayed in the game through jobs as a television analyst last year and Sirius Radio this past year, and he is up to date on the trends and players of the game.

Weis did not have a lot of success in the college ranks, so trying to return at the pro level is likely a better idea.

However, since it has been several years since he's called plays, he may not be the first option on the board for teams around the league who are looking for a new leader on offense.

Weis would probably fare well in some type of role in the NFL, but it may take a bit of convincing to have him move immediately into an offensive coordinator spot after so many years off the job.

But still, it's all about connections in the coaching profession, and Weis has enough of them that he could find a good gig at some point in the future.
