The forthcoming 2020 NFL season is going to be thrown for a loop even if the league can maintain some semblance of normalcy with routine Sunday slate of games in the fall, with or without fans in attendance.

What about the other sports? If college football can't play in the fall, it's possible the NFL moves games to Saturdays, too.

Per Andrew Marchand of the New York Post:

“With the NFL expected to release its schedule soon, its officials have discussed giving the league some flexibility to move games to Saturdays this fall if college football postpones its entire season, according to sources.

The NFL will only consider the move if there is no college football. It is still unclear if college football will be played this fall because of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The NCAA had to cancel its big March Madness tournament to decide a national champion, with several conference tourneys halted in mid-March during the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The global crisis has effective neutered the sports world and major North American sports like the NBA, NHL and the start of the MLB season.

The NFL would want to keep its games in the fall even if there are still public health issues preventing fully-attended games or necessitating limiting contact between players, coaches and personnel.

The NFL will release its 2020 regular season schedule in the next few weeks, but it's entirely possible that schedule is mostly adapted and altered to fit the post-COVID-19 sports landscape.

Due to the ties of leagues' revenue to game attendance, if fans cannot attend events even in the fall, the NFL may not have the ability to play games on either weekend days, or at all.
