The NFL plans on beginning their season as scheduled and soon we'll know when certain teams play against each other in 2020. While the coronavirus pandemic continues to cast a dark cloud over sports, the NFL plans on releasing schedules this Thursday.
For months, we've known who each team is set to play in the upcoming season. At the same time, it's yet to be revealed when certain games are going to be taking place in 2020.
Seeing that the league has to plan around the coronavirus, the schedule could look a bit different than usual. In an attempt to give the NFL a contingency plan in case the coronavirus shortens the season, the league could hold a majority of divisional games later in the season.
By doing this, the NFL can assure that each team has a fair chance to win the division title. On the other hand, the league would rather allow non-divisional games to be canceled since they aren't as important in the grand scheme of things.
Of course, the NFL would prefer to begin the season as scheduled on September 10 and have a chance to play the season without any hiccups. But if the coronavirus continues to be prevalent later this year, the NFL wants to have options to keep the season going.
Since the 2020 NFL Draft, sports fans have been starving for something to watch or turn their attention to. While it isn't an event to watch, the release of the 2020 schedule will give sports fans something to talk about for a couple of days.
