When the Washington Redskins took Dwayne Haskins with the 15th overall pick in the draft back in April, it was expected that he would have to compete for the starting quarterback job with veteran Case Keenum.
Well, even though Keenum is trying to beat out the younger signal-caller for the No. 1 spot, he is raving about Haskins saying that he has improved by “leaps and bounds.”
“He'll be a great quarterback for a long time,” said Keenum, according to John Keim of ESPN. “He makes some big-time throws with guys in his face.”
Haskins, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, is coming off of a brilliant sophomore campaign in which he threw for 4,831 yards, 50 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while completing 70 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 174.1.
Article Continues BelowKnown for his big arm and his pocket presence, Haskins is considered by some to actually be the best quarterback prospect in the 2019 draft class even though Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones were both taken before him.
Of course, Haskins will have his work cut out for him this summer, as Keenum is a very capable quarterback who may very well have the edge to win the opening-day job.
However, given the unlikelihood that the Redskins will be in playoff contention this year, there seems to be a very good chance that Haskins will, at the very least, get some reps at some point of the season.
Washington won seven games this past year and has made just five postseason appearances since 1993.
