The Washington Redskins might not have to wait for the regular season to see legendary running back Adrian Peterson in action and clad in their team’s colors.

Speaking to reporters following Washington’s practice on Tuesday, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said the newly-signed tailback could see action in this coming Friday’s dress rehearsal against the Denver Broncos at home, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Gruden said that he would like to give Peterson some work during Friday’s game against the Broncos “if we get him up to speed” and predicted that Peterson’s experience would help him do exactly that.

Gruden was impressed by Peterson’s shape and conditioning, saying that the seven-time Pro Bowler “wasn’t even breathing heavy” even after the conclusion of the workout.

Adrian Peterson is expected to help soften the impact of the loss of rookie running back Derrius Guice to a season-ending ACL injury. He was signed by the Redskins to a one-year contract worth the veteran’s minimum of $1.015 million.

Before finding a new NFL home in Washington, Peterson spent the 2017 season with the New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals, finishing that campaign with just 529 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 156 carries across 10 games.

The Redskins haven’t named their starter yet in the backfield, but at the very least, Peterson will be involved in a running-by-committee approach together with Rob Kelley, Chris Thompson, and Samaje Perine.
