The Washington Redskins seem to be on a fast track to change their moniker, especially after the recent massive push supported by their major sponsors.

Now, in an interview with Les Carpenter of the Washington Post, new team head coach Ron Rivera revealed he has been working with team owner Dan Snyder to find a new suitable moniker for the NFL franchise.

“If we get it done in time for the season, it would be awesome,” Ron Rivera said about changing the “Redskins” name. “We came up with a couple of names —two of them I really like.”

Rivera has been an incredible presence since taking over for Washington this offseason. He has given the team an identity and has not backed down from anything.

Now, it looks like he is taking the charge in this situation as well.

As Rivera noted, it is still uncertain whether the team can change their moniker before the 2020 season starts. However, it looks pretty clear that they are doing their best to make it happen.

For what it's worth, the team is under immense pressure to make the change quickly. As reported recently, Nike removed all Redskins gears on their website and reportedly won't feature them unless a change has been made. With that said, the franchise needs to quickly come up with a new moniker, as the apparel giant still needs to remake the jerseys and deliver them to distributors.

It will certainly be interesting to see what Washington will do with the “Redskins” name. Will they go for the minor tweaks in the name and logo? Or will they opt for a massive overhaul and come up with an entirely new identity with different colors, logos and names?

Fortunately for fans, it doesn't look like the wait will be long.
