Through the early goings of the NFL offseason, there was much uncertainty surrounding New England Patriots All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski's future as he was contemplating retirement after the Super Bowl 52 loss. However, he has voiced commitment to playing at least through the 2018 season in New England.

Shortly after this decision was made, there has been chatter around him restructuring the remaining two years on his six-year, $54 million deal. According to James Palmer of The NFL Network, Gronkowski is in the middle of reconfiguring his deal that can't be put into place until the third day of Patriots' voluntary team workouts.

Although that should push Gronkowski away from the team over the next few days, there are already reports that he will be back with the team for mandatory minicamp in June alongside league MVP quarterback Tom Brady. There doesn't appear to be any concern about him being away from the time given that he is taking care of his contract situation in order to avoid it becoming an issue in any manner.

The fact that Gronkowski is set to be with the team at this season is a huge boost for the franchise given that he has been the most reliable target in the passing game for the franchise. He is still a mismatch nightmare for defenders due to his size, physicality, and catching ability. He is also coming off yet another highly productive campaign that saw him lead the Patriots with 69 receptions (69), 1,084 receiving yards (1,084), and eight touchdowns that earned him a Pro Bowl selection and a First-Team All-Pro nod. It marked his fourth 1,000 receiving yard season and third in the last four years.

This all looks like it may just be a matter of time before he has his new reworked deal in place that will bring clarity to his long-term future with the Patriots.
