In recent news, the NFC East's most hopeless team, the Philadelphia Eagles has apparently decided to place all of their faith in incumbent starting quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Eagles have decided to trade down in this year's NFL Draft, opting to swap their pick (6th overall) with the 12th, which, belonged to the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins, it should be noted, had the 3rd overall pick before today, opting to swap with the San Fransisco 49ers for their 12th pick. Just minutes before deciding to move back up this year's draft with this deal with Philadelphia.

This Draft Is Expected To Be Loaded

The ramifications of these swaps are potentially massive in a draft loaded with premiere skill talent on the offensive side of the football. This year's draft features at least four potential franchise quarterbacks. As well as arguably the best tight end prospect ever, a trio of solid offensive linemen, and a slew of talented wide receivers, headlined by LSU's Ja'Marr Chase. Mock drafts have shaken out similarly over the past several months, and most of them had Philadelphia jumping at the chance to take a game-changing talent at wide receiver. If the Eagles decided against such a move, the team was projected to take either Penei Sewell or Rashawn Slater to protect their signal-caller.

Miami has already announced their faith in Tua Tagovailoa (short of any pending deal with the Houston Texans for Deshaun Watson). This means that the Dolphins are poised to take either Ja'Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith, or the best lineman available. Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, and Justin Fields are projected to fly off the shelf within the first eight picks. In going through with this deal, the Eagles have also decided that they didn't need any generational talent, in spite of the top two names on their roster being injury-riddled vets.

Eagles Hoping To Secure A Top Prospect At 12.

Granted, the Eagles were able to get three future picks out of the deal. However, to lose out on a primetime weapon or top-tier protection for their quarterback will make Jalen “Hurts” a whole lot. Given this team's ugly experience with the end of Carson Wentz's tenure, common knowledge would dictate that they know how to treat their starting quarterback.

Maybe this is a commitment to a total rebuild. Or maybe it a team showing faith in lower-rated prospects in this year's draft like QB Mac Jones, WR Jaylen Waddle, or even OL Alijah Vera-Tucker.

By surrendering this draft pick in a draft that is so rich in top-tier prospects at exactly the positions that they have empty, Philadelphia is making a win-now gamble on the pieces that they already have. They are not a win-now team, by any stretch of the imagination.
