The NFL handed down three more suspensions on Tuesday. Among them is Los Angeles Rams right guard Jamon Brown.
Brown has been suspended for the first two games of the 2018 NFL season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He has since responded to the suspension with a heartfelt apology on Twitter:
“I have always been taught that when you make a mistake you own up to it,” Brown tweeted. “I made a mistake eighteen months ago and I’ve been suspended 2 games by the NFL for that isolated mistake. I apologize to the Rams organization and coaches, my family, teammates, friends, supporters and all the Rams fans out there. I let you down. I am going to work extremely hard to show you that this one mistake is not who I am and will not keep me from reaching my personal goals or helping the LA Rams win a Super Bowl! I appreciate your continued support.”
Needless to say, the news deals a blow to the Rams' offensive line to start the season. However, running back Todd Gurley has since come to his defense.

While it is encouraging to see Gurley stick up for his teammate, it is still an unfortunate sequence of events. Brown showed plenty of promise in the 2017 campaign. He managed to earn his spot on the Rams' revitalized offensive line and ultimately wound up starting in all 16 games last year. However, he will not be able to keep that streak going in the 2018 campaign.
It will be interesting to see what head coach Sean McVay does to fill the void in their first two games. They could rely on backup right guard Jake Eldrenkamp or one of the many other young offensive linemen they have drafted over the last couple of years.
