Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley is coming off a terrific campaign in 2017 where he claimed the Offensive Player of the Year award. That put him in a great position for negotiations on a possible contract extension, which usually begin ahead of a player's fourth season like Gurley is now.
However, Gurley recently revealed that those contract extension talks with the team actually have yet to begin.
“No, no conversations yet. I’m just being patient, working hard and I’m going to let everything take care of itself and just work on the field,” Gurley told Willie McGinest of NFL Network.
But despite the apparent lack of any progress with that new deal, Gurley remains confident that it will eventually come in due time.

Gurley has remained consistent with his stance that he’s not worried about his contract extension and is willing to wait for his new deal. His patience could very well be tested, though, as the Rams are in no rush to lock him up. They still have him under contract until 2020 and could hold onto him for a couple more years with the franchise tag after that.
The Steelers’ hard-line stance on Le’Veon Bell, as well as the Rams’ own foot-dragging on teammate Aaron Donald’s new deal, should be a sobering reminder that even the very best players in the league need to play some hardball in order to get handed the massive contracts they feel they’re worth. Hopefully for Gurley, his own contract situation is resolved much sooner and with less hassle.
