Veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick crossed enemy lines this offseason by signing with the Washington Redskins after he was released by their big NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys. He hopes his former Cowboys teammate, wide receiver Dez Bryant, will eventually join him on his new team.
In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, Scandrick sees the Redskins as a good fit for Bryant, whom he still sees as a viable red zone threat.
If you got to pick a team for him, what do you think would be a good fit?
Scandrick: “Washington. I know Dez can still catch touchdowns. I know he can still be a great red zone threat, and I would love to play with him again.”
Scandrick isn't the first Redskins corner who's tried to recruit Bryant to come to the nation's capital. Josh Norman sounded out the wideout a couple months ago.
Shortly after his release from the Cowboys, Bryant expressed his desire to stay in the NFC East in order to face Dallas a couple times a season. But neither the Redskins nor the other two teams in the division have expressed interest in bringing him in.
Despite still not signing with any team, Bryant is apparently remaining a free agent by choice and is waiting until the start of training camp at the end of this month before he makes his decision on where he’ll play next.
The Redskins’ receiving corps was a disappointment last season as no wideout even reached 800 yards. They have already looked to address that weak point this offseason with their big free-agent signing Paul Richardson, who joins a group that also includes Josh Doctson and Jamison Crowder.
While that trio is lacking in experience, the Redskins don’t appear eager to add a veteran like Bryant. And barring a change of heart from Washington, it doesn’t look like a Bryant-Scandrick reunion is in the cards this year.
