The Seattle Seahawks came up short against the Minnesota Vikings. Maybe they're experiencing some kind of hangover after losing a close game to the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. Hopefully, they can get things back on track soon. It's time to continue our NFL takeaways series with a Seahawks Week 3 takeaway.
Considering they play in an ultra-competitive NFC West, the Seahawks need their defense to step up in a big way. It's clear this is going to be a key issue for Seattle and could be a reason why they miss the playoffs altogether.
On the other hand, DK Metcalf had a great game and proved he's an elite wide receiver in the NFL. He's going to play a vital role on this offense as the Seahawks hope to bounce back. That'll be a tough task though, as the offensive line is preventing Russell Wilson to play at his highest potential. With that said, here are three Seahawks Week 3 takeaways from their matchup against the Vikings.

Seahawks Week 3 Takeaways
3. Seahawks defense is a huge liability
They've torched through the air and they can't stop the run to save their lives. It's been a brutal start to the season as the Seahawks' defense looks like one of the worst in the league in their last two games. Based on how they're playing, it's hard to imagine Seattle even competes with the Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, or the San Francisco 49ers.
It's getting to the point where the Seahawks may consider entering a rebuild after this season. To avoid that, this defense has to come together and keep opponents out of the endzone. If not, then this will go down as another wasted season for Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll.
2. DK Metcalf is the best player on the offense
Article Continues BelowDK Metcalf has proven to be one of the most electrifying receivers in the league. He's a massive target who can outrun nearly everybody. To capitalize on his talents, the Seahawks have to create better opportunities for their star receiver. He's a threat to take it to the house on any given play and is a mismatch nightmare for most cornerbacks in the NFL.
When you have a weapon like that, you have to use it. We saw him on full display against the Vikings, racking up six receptions for 107 yards and one touchdown. If Russell Wilson keeps throwing his way (which he will) Metcalf should be able to finish as a top receiver this year yet again.
1. Russell Wilson will continue struggling with this offensive line
He's a fantastic quarterback who has a unique ability to extend plays with his legs. We've seen Russell Wilson play like a top 10 quarterback for quite some time now. Even so, that streak might be coming to an end, and it's not entirely his fault.
During the offseason, there was an odd dispute between Wilson and the coaching staff. One factor for Wilson's frustration was the lack of protection from the offensive line. The Seahawks made some moves in hopes to improve that area. Instead, they seem like the same group Mr. Unlimited has been working with for the last few years.
The offensive line has to improve in pass protection, otherwise, Russell Wilson will be running for his life throughout the season. There is still plenty of time for the group to figure it out as it's just Week 3. Even so, expectations shouldn't be too high right now.
