The NFL will have an NFC West divisional showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers flexed into the “Sunday Night Football” game next week in one of the more anticipated forthcoming matchups, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

The Seahawks previously handed the 49ers their first loss of the 2019 season in Week 10 when the Bay Area team was one of the last undefeated franchises on the year. Since then the two west coast teams have jockeyed for both the division title and first seed in the NFC playoff picture. Should the Seahawks win today against the Arizona Cardinals, they will enter next week versus the Niners holding the head-to-head tie-breaker but would cement a first-round bye by defeating their rival.

However, if Seattle loses today, they will have to beat San Francisco in an effort to avoid the Wild Card round and instead get a week off to rest and study up on their potential Divisional Round opponents.

Regardless, Week 17 is shaping up to be an excellent contest between two of the best teams in the league—both of whom are gunning for the top seed in their conference.

The 49ers played on Saturday and defeated the Los Angeles Rams in a demoralizing loss for the L.A., who reached the Super Bowl at the beginning of 2019 and fewer than twelve months later failed to qualify for the postseason like former conference champions from this decade in the 2012 New York Giants and 2016 Carolina Panthers.
