The Seattle Seahawks relied on their rushing attack in 2018, led by Chris Carson. Among his top plays, Carson hurdled and flipped his body over a defender against the Carolina Panthers. One person who was worried to see him hurdle was his mother.

Carson listened to his mom. He changed.

He might be returning to his old ways in 2019.

Coming into this season, Chris Carson is ready to break the promise he made to his mother that he won't hurdle in games anymore. The Seahawks' ballcarrier realizes that sometimes, anything can happen on the field.

“I mean I promised her that,” Carson told reporters on Tuesday regarding a vow made to his mother that he won’t hurdle defenders. “But it is what it is. If it happens it happens.”

However, the Seahawks' lead running back had conflicting statements while continuing to speak to reporters.

“She talked to me about that almost every day, especially when she sees in the interviews talking about not jumping she brings it up,” Carson said. “But I can’t make any promises.”

Whether he decides to hurdle remains to be seen this season. Regardless, Chris Carson should remain the best option in the backfield for Seattle this year.

Last season, Carson rushed for 1,151 yards and nine touchdowns to help the Seahawks lock down the league's best rushing offense. Pete Carroll reverted to running the ball more often in 2018.

As a result, the team got back into the postseason after failing to reach the playoffs in 2017. If Carson showed us anything here, it's that promises aren't meant to be broken—unless they involve hurdling NFL defenders.
