The Seattle Seahawks have made a number of surprising moves thus far in the NFL offseason. However, it seems they may not be done yet.

As of right now, Russell Wilson is currently the only quarterback on the roster. According to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, former Chicago Bears quarterback Mark Sanchez has emerged as a potential backup candidate.

Needless to say, the rumors have been met with some criticism. Sanchez has been on the decline ever since the infamous “Butt Fumble” with the New York Jets. He has now become somewhat of a journeyman over the last several years, serving as a backup for the Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and Philadelphia Eagles. That said, there is speculation as to whether or not there are other more favorable options on the market.

However, the reports should come as a surprise. It seems head coach Pete Carroll's familiarity with his former pupil may be at play. Carroll coached Sanchez at USC en route to him becoming the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

The Seahawks parted ways with last season's backup quarterback Austin Davis which has now been followed up with the release of Trevone Boykin. As a result, Wilson currently stands as the lone player under center. Regardless, Seattle is not by any means desperate for another quarterback with Wilson still in his prime and among the league's best players.

However, Seattle would be remiss if they did not at least have a solid contingency plan in mind. Last year's incredible run by the Philadelphia Eagles has shown the benefit of having a viable backup for their franchise player.
