Unfortunately for the Seattle Seahawks, backup quarterback Paxton Lynch won't be available for Week 3 of preseason football. Lynch was absolutely blasted by Minnesota Vikings cornerback Holton Hill last week, and is in concussion protocol, according to Pro Football Talk.

Anyone who saw the hit that Lynch endured isn't surprised in the slightest. It was one of the more blatant helmet-to-helmet hits anyone will ever see.

In the event that the former Denver Bronco isn't able to suit up for the rest of preseason, Geno Smith and JT Barrett will handle the quarterback duties. Smith is coming off of his own injury, but appears ready to play. Barrett appeared briefly against the Vikings and did a spectacular Nathan Peterman impression. Barrett ended with three attempts, no completions, and an interception.

It's sad that Lynch went down, as he was playing a pretty solid preseason. Against the Vikings, he was unimpressive, but he put on a show against the Broncos in Week 1. Lynch went 11-for-15 with 109 yards and a passing touchdown, in addition to four carries for 38 yards and a score. The former Memphis Tiger looked primed to beat out Geno Smith for the privilege of backing up Russell Wilson, but his chances are now significantly lower. After all, your best ability is your availability.

The Seahawks are a playoff hopeful, and in all likelihood, won't need their backup quarterback. Starter Russell Wilson has never missed a game in his seven-year career, and hopefully that streak extends throughout 2019.
