The Seattle Seahawks kicked off training camp on Thursday and one player was notable absence. Star safety Earl Thomas didn't report to camp as he hopes to get a new contract. He is currently playing on the last year of the contract he signed in 2014.

Coach Pete Carroll was asked about Thomas's absence after Thursday's practice and he seemed only interested in talking about players who were at camp.

“We always expect him to be here,” Carroll said via the Seattle Times. “That’s kind of how it is. He should be here and he’s not. So it’s really about the guys that are here now and we are going to keep moving, moving and grooving, and put it together. It’s unfortunate.”

Carroll was asked if he expects Thomas to report for the regular season and he wasn't even so sure about that.

“I don’t know that. But we are expecting him back. He’s under contract.”

The defense has lost most of the legion of boom and really the only guy left is Earl Thomas and he might not even see the field this year.

According to CBA rules, the Seahawks can fine Thomas up to $40,000 per day for missing training camp but the Seahawks get to chose if they want to fine him.

On Wednesday the Seahawks also placed Kam Chancellor on the physically unable to perform list. That ends his season and although most believe his career is over, Carroll would only confirm that he will miss all of this upcoming season.
