Jamar Taylor could have a new home soon. The veteran cornerback is visiting the Seattle Seahawks today, a source told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. Garafolo notes that with Justin Coleman signing with the Lions, Seattle is in the market for a new nickel corner.
A Boise State product, Taylor was picked in the second round of the 2013 draft by the Miami Dolphins. He bounced around since then, spending time with Miami, Cleveland, Arizona and Denver. He always seems to end up starting games wherever he goes, but has never quite lived up to his draft status. He started nearly two full seasons with the Cleveland Browns in 2016 and 2017.
Traded to the Cardinals before the 2018 season, he started three games and appeared in 10 with Arizona before being traded. He signed with the Denver Broncos for the rest of the season, and played sparingly. He signed a three-year extension with the Browns in 2016 worth $16.5 million, and will likely have to settle for a much cheaper deal here.
Article Continues BelowIf he does sign with the Seahawks, it will almost certainly be a short-term deal with not much guaranteed money. In 78 games and 41 starts, Taylor has 219 tackles, three interceptions, and 28 passes defended. He received poor grades from Pro Football Focus for his limited action last season, and isn't a very appealing option as a starter.
Seattle's defense is nothing like the once dominant unit it had during its Super Bowl days, but it was still pretty good last year. Going from Coleman to Taylor would be a fairly big downgrade.
